The Joplin City Council accepted a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to begin a multi-phased project to RECONSTRUCT RUNWAY 18/36 and replace adjacent runway lighting.
Phase 1, Engineering and Design. A Federal Aviation Administration Grant was received for 95% of design costs. The Design was completed by Crawford, Murphy and Tilly Inc. in 2019.
Phase 2 Construction Project 1, Reconstruct South 3,000 Feet of Runway 18/36. This phase of runway construction will begin this spring by Emery Sapp and Sons and will include a vital runway to runway intersection component. The planned intersection construction will take 10 days during which the airfield will be closed for flights. However, other airport businesses will remain open. Airfield closure dates are July 23, 2021 through August 2, 2021. A Federal Aviation Administration Grant was received for 100% of the costs for phase 2, project 1.
Phase 3 Construction Project 2, Reconstruct North 3,500 Feet of Runway 18/36.
